In brief

Applications for 2027–28 Chevening Scholarships are closed, as checked on 25 October 2026. Future applicants should use the official Nepal page for the next announcement. Admission and scholarship applications are separate processes.

Check the current application round first

The official Chevening Nepal page marks applications for the 2027–28 scholarship cycle as closed. A course offer cannot reopen that application round. If you have not applied, treat the current timeline as a description of that cycle and wait for the next official announcement before assuming its dates will repeat. Keep university and scholarship deadlines in separate records.

For people already progressing through the 2027–28 competition, the published timeline gives 8 July 2027 at 17:00 BST as the deadline to submit at least one unconditional university offer. Interview invitations, document requests and award decisions remain individual steps. Follow the instructions sent to you and retain copies of your correspondence.

Review citizenship, experience and return conditions

Chevening publishes eligibility rules covering citizenship, academic preparation, professional experience and a commitment to return to the country of award for at least two years after the scholarship. Its current guidance requires at least 2,800 hours of work experience acquired after completing an undergraduate degree, over a minimum of two years. Check the complete exclusion criteria on the official eligibility page.

Build an accurate record of qualifying employment or other permitted experience with dates, hours and evidence. Resolve overlapping roles carefully rather than adding the same hours twice. The minimum must be met before applying; expected experience by the date your course starts does not substitute for eligibility at application. The official degree-completion cut-off is cycle-specific.

Choose three courses that meet the scholarship rules

The scholarship application asks for three UK masters course choices in preference order. The course rules require full-time taught masters study, based in the UK and starting in the autumn term. Courses shorter than nine months or longer than twelve months, distance learning, part-time study and research-focused MRes programmes are excluded by the published guidance.

Use the Chevening course finder and the university course page together. Confirm the exact award, intake, mode and duration. A university appearing in our directory does not mean every course it offers qualifies. Research the academic content, entry requirements and application deadlines for each choice; explain how the courses support a coherent career direction. Apply to universities through their own procedures.

Prepare your own evidence and references

Chevening requires applicants to provide their own original application answers and expressly prohibits AI-generated essay responses. This page helps you understand the process; it is not an application-writing service. Keep factual notes about your experience and outcomes, then follow the current application questions and word limits yourself.

You provide details of two referees when applying. If invited to interview, the official guidance requires two reference letters no later than seven working days before the interview. Ask suitable referees early and check the current submission and translation instructions. Your university application may need separate references or English evidence, so keep the two checklists distinct.

Read the award terms before committing

Check the final award documentation for the actual funding and its conditions. Do not assume that every personal expense, dependant cost or optional course activity is covered. Keep a separate list of expenses paid directly, allowances paid to you and costs you must meet yourself. Ask the scholarship team to resolve uncertainty before accepting commitments.

The return-home requirement matters to your career plan. Chevening explains that it cannot support requests to remain in the UK to work or study instead of meeting that requirement. A general description of a post-study visa is therefore not a suitable basis for a Chevening-funded plan. Use the scholarship terms and current immigration guidance together.

Common questions

Is Chevening Nepal open now?

The official Nepal page showed the 2027–28 application round as closed when checked on 25 October 2026. Check that page for future announcements.

Does a university offer guarantee Chevening funding?

No. University admission and the scholarship selection process are separate. You must meet the conditions of both.

Can I use every course in this website’s fee comparison for Chevening?

No. Check the Chevening course finder and current course rules. January intakes and courses longer than twelve months do not meet the published course conditions.
