Nepal is absent from the official GREAT Scholarships 2026–27 country list checked on 25 October 2026. Historical Nepal pages remain online and do not establish current eligibility. Do not deduct a GREAT award from your budget without current written confirmation.
Use the current country list as the starting point
The Study UK GREAT Scholarships overview for 2026–27 identifies eighteen participating countries. Nepal is not included in that published list. This is a specific finding about the current source and award year, not a prediction that Nepal will never participate again. Recheck the official overview when a later cycle is announced.
Country conditions are important. For example, the current Pakistan page requires a Pakistani passport and permanent residence in Pakistan. A place of study, a relative living abroad or a similar-sounding nationality description cannot be substituted for a published requirement. If you have more than one citizenship or an unusual residence situation, ask the awarding institution to confirm which rules apply.
Recognise historical Nepal scholarship information
The British Council Nepal GREAT page explicitly describes scholarships for the 2021–22 academic year. A separate Study UK Nepal page refers to 2022–23. Both are historical award information. Their continued availability in search results is not evidence that those awards are accepting applications for 2026–27 or 2027–28.
Before saving a scholarship to your shortlist, write down the academic year shown in the page body. Then compare it with the central programme overview and the university’s own scholarship page. A recently crawled search result can still contain an old award. If the pages disagree, ask the university scholarship team for current written clarification rather than choosing the more generous statement.
Understand the award amount and the remaining costs
The current programme overview describes GREAT support towards tuition for eligible one-year taught postgraduate courses. It is a fee contribution rather than a promise to cover every cost of studying in the UK. The final university award terms control the amount and the permitted course. This publication does not treat the programme as confirmed funding for a Nepal applicant.
For an eligible applicant, compare the award with the actual international course fee and record the remaining tuition. Budget accommodation, food, transport, travel, visa-related costs and any required deposits separately. Check whether the award is applied to a fee invoice, whether a deposit remains payable and when the deduction appears. Do not assume it will arrive as unrestricted cash in your bank account.
Read the university-specific selection and payment conditions
A programme name alone is insufficient to establish eligibility. Check the participating university, subject restrictions, course level, academic criteria, English requirements, application route and deadline. Keep a copy of the terms that apply to your intake. Some awards need a separate application; never infer the process from another institution’s page.
British Council application guidance recommends checking eligibility and word limits, and providing evidence of achievements. If you are eligible for a later award, answer that award’s actual questions and use truthful examples. Scholarship selection and admission can have different timetables, so track each deadline separately and confirm whether you need an offer before applying.
Build a funding shortlist you can act on
Nepal applicants can investigate university scholarships and other programmes whose current eligibility rules include them. Use the official Chevening Nepal page for Chevening status, rather than assuming any UK government scholarship is open to every nationality. The general Study UK funding page and university scholarship pages are useful discovery sources.
Maintain an evidence sheet with the award year, eligible nationality, course, amount, deadline, decision date and source URL. Mark an award as unconfirmed until the institution issues a written decision. Keep your budget viable without a competitive award, or explicitly identify the funding gap that would prevent you from accepting the course. This is a planning method, not a claim about your likelihood of winning funding.

Nepal is absent from the current official 2026–27 country list checked for this page. Do not assume eligibility from an older Nepal webpage.
Why does a Nepal GREAT Scholarships page still appear online?
Official historical pages for 2021–22 and 2022–23 remain available. Check the academic year in the actual page content.
