In brief

University pre-CAS interviews and UKVI interviews are different processes. Prepare by understanding your own course, finances and history, and answer truthfully; memorised scripts and promised outcomes cannot replace a genuine application.

Identify who is interviewing you

Read the invitation carefully: it may come from your university before a CAS is issued, or from UKVI during a visa application. Confirm the sender through the institution or the official application channel. Note the time zone, deadline, format, identification requirements and what to do if you cannot attend.

A university’s decision to issue a CAS does not decide your visa application. Equally, another applicant’s interview experience cannot establish whether you will be interviewed or which questions you will receive. Use the invitation and current official instructions for your own case.

Explain your course choice in your own words

Know the exact award, institution, teaching campus, start date and duration. Read the course page and identify the modules or methods connected to your previous study and intended development. Greenwich’s visa interview guidance highlights understanding your studies and reasons for choosing them.

Practise explaining the decision without reciting promotional copy. Why this subject, why this level and what alternatives did you consider? If a module is optional, describe it that way. Do not claim a placement or job is guaranteed unless the written course terms actually establish the arrangement.

Understand the funding plan you submitted

Be able to explain the tuition, amounts already paid and the source of money for the remaining costs. Review the actual evidence with its account holder, dates and any loan or scholarship conditions. If a parent supports you, understand the arrangement rather than learning an invented explanation of their income.

Keep living costs and payment timing realistic. Do not make future part-time work the answer to a funding shortfall. A preparation session can help locate inconsistencies, but it cannot make an unsuitable financial document acceptable. Ask the university’s immigration team about unresolved evidence questions before submission.

Check your history and intentions

Review the chronology of education, employment, gaps and previous immigration applications. Explain a subject change or break using your actual circumstances. If you do not remember a date precisely, avoid inventing a confident answer; rely on the records and follow any procedure for clarifying information.

Discuss plans in a way that reflects your present intentions and the course’s value to them. Do not borrow a stranger’s career story or conceal a previous refusal. Home Office guidance considers whether an applicant is a genuine student; it does not publish a script that guarantees acceptance.

Make the appointment workable

For a remote interview, test the device, audio, connection and meeting access in advance. Find a quiet place and have the requested identification ready. Check Nepal and UK time differences for the appointment date. Request disability or communication adjustments through the inviting organization where needed.

If you cannot hear a question or a connection fails, tell the interviewer and follow the stated reporting process. Ask for clarification instead of guessing. Keep appointment messages and any technical-error evidence. Afterward, complete genuine follow-up requests through the verified channel and continue monitoring your application.

Common questions

Is a pre-CAS interview the same as a UKVI interview?

No. The university uses its own process when deciding sponsorship, while UKVI considers the immigration application. Read each invitation separately.

Can an adviser guarantee that I will pass?

No. Preparation can help you understand your application and communicate accurately, but another person cannot guarantee a university or immigration decision.

Should I memorise model answers?

Use your own evidence and reasoning. Rehearsing clear explanations is useful; repeating a script that does not match your circumstances is unreliable.
