Check three things separately: the provider’s identity, its relationship with your chosen university, and the named counsellor’s training. A directory entry or training badge does not prove a current university appointment or guarantee admission.
Start with the exact provider and university
Write down the consultancy’s trading name, website, office and the university it says it represents. Record the course, campus and intake too. Similar names and broad destination advertising can make two different claims look like the same relationship.
A listing in this publication means source evidence of destination coverage was found. It is a starting point for your checks. It is not confirmation that every employee, branch, course or intake is covered by a university agreement.

Confirm the relationship with the university
Go to the university’s own website and look for its Nepal country page or international representative list. Compare the exact agency name and office details. An agency’s university logo wall is its own statement; a current institution source is a separate check.
If the list is absent or unclear, contact the university’s international admissions team using details you find on its official site. Ask a precise question: whether the named consultancy and office can support an application to that course and intake. Keep the written reply. If the provider works through another organisation, ask the university to clarify the arrangement rather than assuming a direct appointment.

Check the individual counsellor’s training
The British Council database lists people who completed its UK knowledge assessments. Search for the counsellor’s name, agency and location, and compare the record with the person advising you.
The British Council says this certificate applies to an individual, not an entire business, and that it does not formally endorse, accredit or validate agents. Training and an institution appointment answer different questions. Neither is a prediction of your admission or visa outcome.

Ask what the service includes
Before handing over documents, agree who submits the application, where you can view its progress, how corrections will be approved and who receives university messages. Ask whether the recommended shortlist includes only institutions the provider represents.
Keep your own record of applications and decisions. Read the final course choice, personal information and statements before submission. Do not approve an explanation or employment history you cannot support.
- Ask for the named person responsible for your application and a backup contact.
- Ask for a written breakdown of consultancy charges and payments to third parties.
- Agree how you receive copies of submissions, offers and receipts.
Verify payment instructions through a separate channel
Open the institution’s payment guidance yourself. Check the beneficiary, payment route and application reference before a transfer. If instructions change, verify the change with the university using a contact you found independently.
UKCISA warns that convincing callers can impersonate legitimate organisations and use urgency to demand money or personal information. Pause if a message pressures you to bypass checks. For a suspected scam, use the current official reporting guidance and your institution’s international student adviser.

Common questions
Does a consultancy directory listing prove university approval?
No. Check the university’s current representative information or ask its admissions team. Published destination coverage is different from an appointment for a particular institution.
Is British Council training awarded to the whole consultancy?
The British Council says the certificate applies to the individual counsellor, not the business. Its database is a training check, not formal agent endorsement or accreditation.
What if the agent is missing from the university website?
Ask the university directly using its official contact details. Public lists may not answer every arrangement; absence alone does not establish misconduct.
Can a verified agent guarantee a UK visa?
An agent appointment or training record does not guarantee an admission or visa decision. Assess your own course conditions and official requirements separately.
