Use the official education-agent selection resources
Study with New Zealand publishes a checklist and suggested questions for choosing an education agent. Use these alongside the destination evidence in each record. Ask the institution to confirm the adviser’s current relationship and the application route for the programme you intend to study.
Check the qualification title, credit value, teaching location and duration rather than comparing a consultancy’s country headline alone. A provider can work with different kinds of institutions; the particular programme and written offer determine what you are applying for.
Check the scope of immigration advice separately
Immigration New Zealand explains that immigration advice must come from a licensed adviser or someone exempt from licensing. Its student guidance identifies an exemption for overseas education agents advising on student visas. Do not extend that statement automatically to every location, adviser or immigration category; ask who is giving the advice and what scope applies.
- Which institution and exact programme does this recommendation concern?
- What support is provided before departure and after arrival?
- Who gives any immigration advice, and what licence or exemption applies to that service?
Common questions
Do I have to use an education agent to apply to New Zealand?
Study with New Zealand says you do not need an agent, although an agent can help you consider options. Check your institution’s application instructions and decide what support you require.
Does a New Zealand listing establish that an adviser is licensed?
No. Destination coverage is not a licensing check. Immigration New Zealand distinguishes licensed advisers from people who are exempt; confirm the person and scope of the service you need.
Does an offshore student-visa exemption cover every kind of visa advice?
Do not assume that. Check the current Immigration New Zealand guidance and the adviser’s specific role before relying on advice outside the student application.
